Denver Plastic Surgery – Boulder Cosmetic Surgery
Dr. Swail is proud to continue a tradition of excellence in patient care that has served the Boulder area for over 30 years. Boulder Valley Plastic Surgery is not only a plastic surgery office but is also a state of the art surgical facility certified by the American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAAASF). As well as cosmetic and reconstructive surgery we offer a full range of less invasive treatments including laser, botox, injectable fillers (restylane, collagen, juvederm, etc), and a full service skin care center.
We do not charge a fee for cosmetic surgery consultation. This is because the great majority of patients who see Dr. Swail end up booking surgery with him. A refundable scheduling fee may be charged in order to discourage “no-shows” that prevent other patients from being seen.
Personal consultation with a plastic surgeon allows a patient to find out if he or she feels comfortable with the surgeon and his or her office staff. Plan to spend about an hour at the office. You should arrive ten to fifteen minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete registration paperwork. You will then spend about thirty minutes with Doctor Swail. He will explain the procedure, the risks involved, and the probability of success. He will review your medical history to evaluate any medical condition that might affect the surgical result. Your expectations and goals are also discussed to make certain the desired surgical outcome is realistic. After meeting with Doctor Swail you will have the opportunity to sit down with our patient care coordinator and discuss scheduling and cost of procedures.
We will provide you with educational brochures from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). These have clear explanations with pictures that cover details of many procedures. Patients are encouraged to bring a list of their own questions, as well as a note pad to write down any information not included in take-home reading materials. Often, it is difficult to digest all of the necessary information in one visit and we encourage those with further questions to schedule a second appointment if needed.
Many procedures we perform for congenital or acquired deformities are covered by health insurance. In those cases we will be your advocate and try to help you in obtaining the coverage you deserve. For purely cosmetic procedures we will endeavor to provide care at a reasonable rate of cost. In some cases a procedure covered by insurance can be combined with a cosmetic procedure. In those cases we will charge for the surgery in a way that is both favorable to you and ethically fair to your insurance provider.
We are members of numerous insurance plans. Please refer to your insurance provider directory to confirm our participation. If you insurance plan requires a referral, you must obtain this from your primary care physician and provide it to us with you insurance card at your first visit.
Risks and Complications
“No ethical or wise surgeon will try to tell you that they never have complications. The key is to avoid serious or life threatening complications and to deal with the less serious complications appropriately. Serious and life threatening complications are usually the result of overly lengthy surgery, overly aggressive surgery, or inadequate precautions. I do not perform 8-12 hour total body makeovers. All of these procedures can be performed in separate surgeries without the risks of a prolonged anesthetic. In any individual case where the choice is between a more aggressive technique and a lower risk of serious complications, I will recommend the safer course to you. When less serious complications occur (as they inevitably do in all surgeon’s practices) I will manage them appropriately. When I operate on you I make a commitment to your safety and satisfaction. I will not abandon that commitment.”
