It’s Time for a Lift!

June 10, 2022

If you’re looking to improve your body composition, there are a few, dare we say it, upLIFTing procedures that are available to you. As we age, our bodies naturally lose their elasticity, causing sagging areas of skin throughout the body, making us feel older and less confident. Fortunately, we don’t have to be stuck with these issues.

Here is a list of various lift procedures designed to bring you back to a youthful appearance and, of course, LIFT your spirits in the process.

Breast Lift

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a procedure that gives the breast a more youthful positioning and shape. Due to the natural effects of aging, breasts can begin to sag, lose their fullness, and lose their shape. This is due to decreased skin elasticity, an unavoidable effect of getting older. Changes in breast shape can also be due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss or gain.

Breast lift procedures can vary due to a patient’s breast size, shape and position of the areola, amount of correction needed, and natural elasticity of the skin. Your BV Plastics doctor will do a full examination to determine which type of incision will be used, and determine what an ideal goal for your breasts should be. Once the incision is done, your doctor will reshape the underlying breast tissue to achieve the desired appearance.

Results are immediate. Bandages or support bras will help with the recovery process, and before you know it you’ll be ready to show off your new, youthful look with a renewed confidence!

Arm Lift

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is used to restore a youthful appearance of the arms due to upper arm skin becoming loose and inelastic. This occurs naturally with age, and often from major weight loss. The result is a more toned and proportionate appearance of the arms.

Once again, your doctor will determine an incision point based on individual needs and goals. During the procedure, the underlying supportive tissue is tightened and reshaped using internal sutures. The skin is then replaced over the arm, with excess skin removed. Liposuction may be used when excess fat could affect the shape of the arm.

Results for arm lifts are immediate, albeit with some bruising and swelling initially. Once those subside, a more contoured and shapely appearance is revealed.

Thigh Lift

Like arm lifts, a thigh lift is a procedure that seeks to remove excess skin and fat from the upper legs, aka the thighs. This leads to a more toned and aesthetic appearance for the patient. Often due to genetics, extreme weight changes, or other factors, diet and exercise cannot entirely lead to a desired appearance. The thigh lift then becomes the perfect solution.

There are two types of thigh lift procedures, each designed to combat sagging skin or excess fat in the designated area of the thigh (inner or outer). Incision size will depend on the severity of the correction, but can usually be done in well-hidden areas of the leg to minimize the visible scarring.

Results are both immediate and delayed for thigh lifts with Boulder Valley Plastic Surgery. Immediately following the procedure, swelling and bruising will slightly hide the results. Once swelling and bruising retracts, a shapely and toned set of thighs will be waiting, with results also improving over time. Compression garments may be worn for a few weeks following the procedure as well.

Body Lift

If you’re looking for a lifting treatment in multiple areas of the body, a multiple-area-encompassing body lift may be the perfect solution. No two body lift procedures are the same, as each seeks to address the specific needs of the patient. It could be a combination of breast lift, arm lift, or thigh lift, and may include liposuction as well.
